Nim'bryn

The Nim'bryn is primordial in origin, arising from the elemental conjunction where the Planes of Air and Water meet. It is not bound permanently to that region. A Nim'bryn may pass at will between the conjunction and the Material Plane wherever the two intersect.

The act of crossing is immediate, but travel within the elemental region is not. A Nim'bryn that departs at one Material intersection may require time to reach another before emerging. In condensed form, it can carry willing creatures through the passage, though its own elemental resilience extends no protection to those riders.

When condensed, the Nim'bryn assumes the outline of a large horse formed entirely from cloud. Its body gathers into layered currents of pale vapor, with denser structures defining the head, torso, limbs, mane, and tail. No flesh lies beneath this appearance; even at its most solid, its substance remains cloud.

The mane and tail do not hang as hair. They stream outward in rolling plumes that continually loosen, curl, and gather again. The hooves appear darker and more sharply defined than the surrounding body when the creature prepares to bear weight or strike.

In its diffuse state, the equine outline ceases to function as a stable boundary. The creature spreads into vapor capable of passing through any opening that admits air, becoming difficult or impossible to distinguish from substantial cloud, fog, or mist.

The Nim'bryn exists in two deliberate states. Condensation permits contact: it can support weight, carry riders, strike with its hooves, and interact with physical objects. Diffusion abandons those capabilities in exchange for permeability, allowing the elemental to share occupied space and move through openings far smaller than its condensed form.

It possesses no ground movement. All locomotion is aerial, sustained without visible wingbeats and without dependence upon surrounding wind. Its ordinary flight is already exceptional; favorable prevailing wind increases that speed further.
