Gharnakthul

Beyond the Veiled Deep stands the fortified homeland of the Varnokh—a people made one by betrayal, transformed alongside their gods, and bound by one enduring truth: Unity Is Survival.

Familiar forms · An unfamiliar people

They were made one by betrayal.

The ancestors of the Varnokh were once four kindreds: orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears. They possessed different lands, worshipped different gods, carried different wounds, and had little reason to imagine themselves as one people.

Then humanity betrayed each of them through the Red Pact. Their leaders were killed, their settlements burned, and their people slaughtered in places they had been promised would remain safe. They were betrayed separately—but division was no longer something the survivors could afford.

Kharvulok forged them into the Varnokh.

Do not mistake them for four familiar fantasy peoples living beneath a common banner. Their communities retain distinct customs, leaders, traditions, and standards of honor, but they no longer regard themselves as separate peoples.

They are Varnokh.

The Gorr’Kel

Their gods were forged with them.

The transformation did not end with mortals. The war gods, fire gods, hunters, protectors, and gods of endurance once worshipped by the four kindreds were forced together as their peoples fought to survive. From that divine convergence arose the Gorr’Kel—a pantheon shaped by the same necessity that created the Varnokh.

The Gorr’Kel are not distant figures reserved for temples and ceremonies. Their influence runs through Varnokh governance, warfare, labor, craft, discipline, endurance, and daily conduct.

Among the Varnokh, disunity is not merely considered failure. It is remembered as extinction.Unity Is Survival
A homeland built to hold

Rare is the outsider who sets foot here.

Gharnakthul was neither discovered nor bestowed. It was taken, bound, fortified, and made sacred.

Its settlements are built as though something will eventually attempt to break them. Bone, volcanic glass, metal, and gold become structures designed to bear weight before displaying beauty. Its banners carry history rather than decoration. Its defenses are not exhibitions of strength, but promises that betrayal will never again decide the Varnokh future.

Rare is the outsider permitted to set foot upon Gharnakthul. Rarer still is one invited there and allowed to leave with more than carefully measured impressions.

The Veiled Deep

The boundary remembers.

Between Gharnakthul and the rest of Khassid lie waters that are not simply guarded. The drowned dead are bound beneath the Veiled Deep, and the things that patrol its mist do not recognize trespass as an innocent mistake.

Unauthorized vessels vanish. Their crews may be killed—but death is not necessarily the end of what awaits them.

Some are kept.

Story from Khassid

The Last Shred of Light

Leris Tavron was once captain of the Wandering Gale. His ship crossed into waters no sensible captain willingly approaches. He returned. His crew did not.

Hear his account of the Wraithhulk that emerged from the mist, the dead things that climbed aboard, and the terrible possibility that his survival was not an act of mercy.

Trust must survive the testing

Vigilance preserved them. It can also become a cage.

The Varnokh learned to fear outsiders honestly. Trust had once been offered to them and then wielded as a weapon.

That history has made them guarded, disciplined, and exacting. A stranger may be watched, questioned, or tested long before being welcomed. Trust can be earned through honor, shared hardship, reliable craft, or loyalty proven when it matters—but proximity should never be mistaken for acceptance.

That tension remains alive within Gharnakthul: how does a people remember the betrayal that forged them without allowing it to govern every door they might someday open?

Full destination forthcoming

The Varnokh remain united because they know what division costs.

Gharnakthul will open as a destination of fortified cities, divine convergence, tested loyalties, and a society in which strength is measured by what it preserves.
