Craghold Bastion
Carved into the northern mountains, the Crag is fortress, intake center, sentence archive, and severe home of prisoners ordinary Kaxon cannot safely contain.
An island given over to custody and consequence, where the same law that binds the sentenced is meant to bind those who hold the keys.
Kaxon is both prison and work yard: a Crown-administered island where sentence becomes labor, record, and consequence. Craghold Bastion holds those ordinary Kaxon cannot safely contain, but the island does not empty into the Crag each night. Sentenced workers live near vineyards, fields, ranches, quarries, yards, and harbors according to their recorded status.
Nor is everyone on Kaxon a prisoner. Wardens, healers, clerks, free craftspeople, contracted specialists, former prisoners under approved residence, and limited civilian households also make lives here. Children are born, meals shared, animals tended, letters written, and wine made beneath a penal mandate that touches every road without reducing every resident to a sentence.

This threshold divides the severe northern works from the central corridor. Southward passage may mean earned trust; northward passage rarely brings good news.
Sentenced workers, skilled supervisors, free craftspeople, guards, and inspectors make the hinges, tools, chains, and fittings that keep Kaxon—and Crown works beyond it—functioning.
Verdant Vale, Thresher's Hold, Greenhollow, and Breezebank produce grain, roots, legumes, greens, and provisions. Kaxon's food is not pastoral decoration; it is order and survival.
Mineral soil and disciplined labor produce Kaxon Red, a dark, age-worthy wine sealed with a narrow island-forged chain that must be broken before pouring.
Livestock and working animals supply food, hides, transport, and field labor. Here, steady hands may matter more than the crime recorded beside a name.
Kaxon is harsh, but its prisoners are not disposable. Sentences enter the Chainledger; labor, movement, discipline, injury, review, transfer, release, and death must leave a record. Conduct may alter an assignment or a term. Punishment may be severe, but it may not become an official's private appetite.
The island therefore shows two faces of the Crown at once: judgment in the confinement of those who crossed its laws, and restraint in the limits placed upon those entrusted with power. Burial rites are inviolable. No sentence extends beyond death. These protections do not make Kaxon gentle. They are meant to keep it from becoming something worse.
Kaxon's grain fills stores, its stone supports roads and harbors, its iron keeps gates working, and its wine reaches respectable tables far beyond its shore. The island's most uncomfortable truth is not that life stops beneath sentence. It is that work, pride, family, mercy, resentment, and ordinary days continue inside it.
